Elk calling is both science and dark art.  It’s not enough to have an elk call.  What separates successful elk hunters from the empty freezer crowd is the knowledge to use a call the right way, at the right time.  In today’s information overloaded, sound-bite driven culture, the urge to say something, to get attention, right now before you are drowned out is pervasive and near irresistible.

In today’s video, elk hunting expert, Willi Schmidt, reminds us we have senses other than speech–or calls.  We have ears and eyes, as well, and it is better to use them first, and the call second.  The right call, at the right time, every time puts wapiti on the table.
